Getting Ready for Halloween! The Nightmare Collection

I think I've been in the mood for Halloween all Summer.  Well, actually, I believe I stay in a Halloween frame of mind all year round.  It is my favorite time of year, next to Christmas.  You can just feel the magic in the air.  The much anticipated change from Summer to Fall.  Waiting for all the decorations and costumes to arrive on the shelves.

Well, this year I decided to do something really fun for the season.  My shop usually has "Halloween'ish" items all year round, but I wanted to do something special.  I had just completed a collaborative project with a new friend that I met on Etsy.  We worked together on an Alice in Wonderland themed Collection (which I need to post about here to show you all the fun stuff we did for that), and we had such a good time that I approached her about collaborating on another project for Halloween.  Her name, by the way, is Amy Wonderland, and she is a HUGELY talented Hatter and Bow Maker.  (You're probably already getting a hint as to how our first Wonderland Collection sprung into existence.)  But I digress...

The theme we decided on for this year's Halloween Collection was a unanimous Yes! for Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas.  We both love the movie, the characters, and the whole style in general, so we were both rarin' to go!

First step -- re-watch the movie!  Everyone should have such pain-staking homework to do.  It was really fun to revisit Jack Skellington and all his pals -- Sally, with her lovely patchwork and her Nightshade Potion, Oogie Boogie is a particular favorite of ours, oh, and Zero, he's too cute!  We each took our notes, Amy sketched away feverishly, and we were ready to begin!

We both have a lot of fun bouncing ideas off each other, and also keeping some things quiet and surprising each other with what we've come up with.

I knew immediately that I wanted to do something "Nightshade" perfume wise.  That was a no brainer, so to speak.  So that was my first quest, to come up with an aroma that encompassed the night -- something very pretty and with a surprising twist.  Which, upon watching NBC, I was particularly intrigued by Jack's formulations on the chalkboard, and the equation with Sugar Plum Spice caught my eye.  "That's it!"  "It has to have Sugar Plum Spice to give it that Halloween plus Christmas Magic edge."  I did run this idea past Amy, and she agreed, this was the way to go with the Nightshade Perfume.  Then of course the bottle had to be perfect as well.  So I set upon my next quest for finding the little flower beads -- I knew I wanted a purple flower on the bottle as well as a label saying Nightshade to give it the right appeal.

Amy, in the meantime, told me that she wanted to do something Oogie Boogie related.  She wasn't quite sure how to work his overall image into a hat, but she knew that was a task that she wanted to undertake, and she did!  Talk about the surprise element!  When I got my first glance at her Oogie Boogie hats -- yes, she made 2 of them!  I was thrilled beyond belief!  She really captured his image and made them have a 3D look.  She did all this by hand -- no patterns or anything.  Just her and her talent.

Each and every item in our collections has it's own story just like those.  And our collections ended up being larger than the one before.  We hope you'll enjoy our NBC inspired offerings.  We have each posted our items in our individual Etsy Shops and we've set up a "Nightmare Collection" Section where you can find these particular treats.

Amy's Shop is http://www.amywonderland.etsy.com

Hand Decorated Perfume Bottles by Jfay, Studio 3B

All of my potion/perfume bottles are hand decorated individually upon an order being placed.  They are decorated just like jewelry.  I use jewelry wire, beads and charms.  Each perfume has it's own individual bottle design, but you can order any design you'd like for any perfume.  There's no extra charge since they're not made until ordered.

The potion/perfume bottles are shipped with plastic caps to prevent spillage during shipment, but cork stoppers are included to put in your bottles upon receipt.  The corks are excellent to use as perfume applicators.  It's nice to have pretty bottles to display on your vanity tray or dresser, but I do also offer my perfumes in spray bottles as well for carrying along with you.  The spray bottles hold 1/8 oz of perfume, but you can order a refill bottle of perfume for refilling your spray bottle.

The potion/perfume bottles come with a free refill bottle.  Bonus!  So when you purchase your decorated potion bottle, you automatically have extra perfume to refill your decorated bottle.  You can also use this refill bottle to refill your spray bottle.  I sell the spray bottles empty or filled.

I also offer my perfumes in decorated potion necklaces, so there are 3 ways to choose how you want to receive your favorite Wick'd Potion Sinfully Delicious Perfumes!

The Legend of Black Moon

Image
The Deep South is filled with colorful stories, legends, and superstitions.
One story tells of unrequited love and dangerous magic that lead to a very powerful curse that still haunts the people that live in the dark swamps of Louisiana to this day.
The Legend of Black Moon…
Alexandra is a name long familiar here. She was a powerful Voodoo Priestess gifted in divining spells and calling upon the spirits to do her bidding. As beautiful as she was stubborn, Alexandra could usually have her way without the use of magic. She certainly had no problem capturing the attention of men, and never used Voodoo to gain their admiration or love. Alexandra knew the dangers of casting Voodoo Love Spells because they were only to be used on a man you wanted to be with forever. These spells can bind your souls for eternity. Despite all the men that swooned around her there was only one that caught her eye.
Jameson was handsome with dashing dark features. He also had an air of distinction about him that really attracted her to him. No matter her schemes to be noticed by him and gain his interest, he would just smile graciously and bid her a good day.
Alexandra soon learned that his heart belonged to another. This only fueled her desires. She would have him as her own, no matter the cost. She was willing to break her own rule of never attempting a Love Spell and knew all too well the possible danger that could result.
Alexandra set out to make a powerful and seductive potion for her spell. She chose Sandalwood Oil for its power of wishes and love divinations. She searched for the best Musk Oils, which are strong aphrodisiacs that ignite inner passions and fire. She also found the rarest Black Agar Wood to enhance the formulation.
She needed an Amulet to signify the night of the moon on which the ritual must be performed. She hand forged blackened pewter into the image of the full moon and signified the soon to be new lovers by carving her and Jameson’s faces into each moon. She also hand tooled a heart locket and key to signify their bond, and that her heart would only belong to Jameson for the rest of time.
On the night of the Eclipsed Moon she performed her ritual. She had her alter set before her with her Potion and Amulets. She drew two circles side by side, and put her Black Moon Heart Necklace in one and Jameson’s Black Moon Key Necklace in the other. With candles burning, she began her chant…. “Listen to my voice, listen to my breath. I hereby declare that you will always be mine, till eternity.” She clutched the Amulet Necklaces and placed them together in the same circle and blew out the candles.
“At last he is mine…”
Jameson came to her that very night. She could not believe his lust for her and the unbridled passion of his love. It was beyond her wildest dreams and fantasies. She had indeed formulated a very powerful potion and made sure to rub some upon her lover’s body every night.
Each night his passion grew more and more uninhibited. It was as if he could not satiate his hunger for her. She decided to make another potion of the Sandalwood and Musk, but this time infusing it with soft Amber and a hint of Smoky Vanilla to tame his ferocity and make him a gentler lover. Oh the sensuality. It was perfect. If only it had lasted…
The woman Jameson had loved before Alexandra cast her Love Spell, was none other than the most powerful Priestess in the Swamps. Upon learning what had happened to her lover she immediately sought retribution. She cast her own spell to break Alexandra’s hold on Jameson.
When Jameson came out from under Alexandra’s spell he returned immediately to his true love.
Alexandra was so overwhelmed with rage she vowed revenge. Their souls were still bound forever and she could never let him go. On the night of the next full moon she went to her secret place of rituals. She tore off the Black Moon Amulet necklace she had created for her Love Spell and placed a curse upon it and upon Jameson. If she could not have him and all his passion, he would be forever doomed to walk the night of the full moon not as a man but as a beast. He would be cursed to live out his days as a werewolf, never able to satisfy his raging hunger, unless he returned to her. The only way for the curse to be lifted was for the key that he wore on his necklace to be joined once again with the heart locket of Alexandra’s necklace and their love revived.
Alexandra had to suffer the consequences of her Love Spell. She knew that this could never be undone and that her soul would be forever bound to Jameson. She could only wait in hopes that he would end his suffering and come back to her. Then they could revel in passion once more.
No one knows if Jameson ever returned to Alexandra.
Legend speaks of haunting cries heard throughout the bayous and a beast that still roams the swamps at night in the darkness of the Black Moon…

Who is She Today?

I must confess... I am an artist with an identity crises. Not that it's a bad thing, and not that I have many personalities, but rather many artistic tastes.  I love so many styles that I cannot put myself into one stylistic box.  I envy people that are able to choose a style that is perfect for them and then build upon that style or theme to market themselves and their product(s).  They make it look and seem so easy.  It is easy for you?  It is difficult for me….

I instead zip around so many styles and themes, that I sometimes do not know whether I’m coming or going.  One day I may be in the mood for a Parisian masquerade ball, and the next I’m on to 1960′s spies and sex bomb girls!  But I suppose that’s the way the artistic wind can blow, and it’s best not to squelch the flow, but to let it have it’s own way.

So — instead of being envious of others that can navigate their way around their specific stylings, I shall openly embrace my artistic whims and carry on.  If it seems confusing to those who visit my shops to find my creations, I can only hope that they are able to appreciate that my stylings are not stagnate, but rather there are many from which to choose.  If what you see at first is not your style, look around a bit more, as you never know what you’ll find.

Some of my favorite themes are those of fantasy.  I find reality to be quite boring when creating.  It is much more fun to create something fantastical.   I also have a love for all things horror, and find myself delving into all kinds of fun things there.

I suppose a safe way to describe my work is edgy, although I do have a lot of sweet creations, I usually tend to put my own Wick'd twist on things.

So please be sure to stop by and see what's going on from time to time, you never know what may be going on over here.  It's always a fun journey to be sure!

You can find my creations both on my website: http://studio3b.virb.com and also in my Etsy Shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/studio3b

Galaxy Glass Rings

One of my latest projects has been making rings.  I fell in love with these handmade galaxy glass cabochons and decided to use these as inlays on bronze filigree to make very stunning fashion rings.   Each piece of galaxy glass is handmade by an artist and each are one of a kind.  They are a nice large size at approx. 1.25 inches in diameter.  If you love wearing eye catching jewelry, then this style is definitely for you!  I ship these rings in gift boxes that are tied with a chocolate brown satin ribbon.  Perfect for gift giving or for a special gift for yourself!

The bands are adjustable bronze filigree, and are very comfortable to wear.

Pictured above are the Red Fire Opal Galaxy Glass, Blue Dragon Opal Galaxy Glass, and Purple Galaxy Glass Rings.

You can find the finished rings in the Studio 3B Store, as well as in the Studio 3B Etsy Shop.

Jfay's Micro Perfumery

Just like micro breweries who brew up artistic blends of beer to give your taste buds an adventure, I blend artistic perfumes to give your nose an adventure!

My approach to making perfumes is to let my imagination go where it may.  To let a concept, an idea, or even a mood, develop into an enjoyable aroma experience.

I begin my design journey usually with a certain idea or inspiration in mind.  My latest design project was Floozy Perfume.  For this, it began as an idea to make a 1920's Flapper inspired fragrance.  I first started researching cocktail recipes from the 1920's, as Speak Easy's were all the rage.  One that really caught my eye was called Bee's Knees.  The recipe called for Honey, Orange, Lemon and Gin. I thought that Orange and Lemon would be a great starting place. I began building on this concept and soon my fragrance journey led me on a more sultry path, and I decided to infuse some tawdry spices into my recipe that would pair nicely with the Mandarin Tangerine I used for my Orange influence, as well as the Lemon.  The result is a very saucy perfume with Tangerine and Lemon notes riding happily on a background of delicious Spices such as Cinnamon, Clove, and Nutmeg. The fragrance is also infused with a bit of Ginger and Green Tea. Does sound like a drink recipe hey?

That gives you an idea of how a perfume idea may come about and be turned into reality.  The ideas and fragrance combination possibilities are endless.  To tap into your imaginings and turn them into fragrances is amazing!

Fragrances for me, effect moods...  And I sometimes design according to a mood.  I also sometimes design upon someone's request.  I've had people approach me about certain aromas that they'd like to experience, and if it hits my fancy, I may just try it.

One particular fragrance that comes to mind, and which happens to be one of my favorites to wear --  Remember me talking about moods?  Well, I wear this one after a stressful day, it just makes me feel "happy".  But I digress... I was approached by someone who really loves Vanilla Cupcakes and she wanted to know if I could make a perfume that smelled just like Vanilla Cupcakes with Butter Cream Icing.  I knew that was something that I'd really enjoy trying my hand at, so I set about doing just that.  I even surprised myself with the results, I had managed to make the most delicious Vanilla Cupcake aroma that I've ever encountered, and you can understand why (when you smell it), I call it Sinfully Delicious Cupcake Perfume.

I have so many stories to tell about my many designs and how and why they came about.  So I hope you'll join me here on my new blog for all the fragrance journeys, and new ones to come.

Remember to dream beyond the norm, and to not be afraid to try something new.  You never know what exciting things are there for you.  In life and in fragrance!
